"What is AerComTec International?"
AerComTec International is a privately-held U.S. corporation headquartered in Aiken, South Carolina, the center of the Savannah River Technology District. AerComTec owns several technologies related to AVL, GPS, sensing and security. For more information and about AerComTec, please contact us.

"What does AVL stand for?"
AVL is an abbreviation for Automatic Vehicle Location System. With major advances in technology, "Car 54, where are you?", is no longer a question without an answer. AerComTec's AerTrax(tm) system is an innovative, dependable and cost-effective AVL system with an entry level of one unit and no capacity limit. AERTRAX can serve a company with four vehicles as easily as a company with four thousand.

"What does GPS stand for?"
GPS is an abbreviation for Global Positioning System. The GPS is owned and operated by the U.S. Department of Defense. Its primary mission is to serve the navigation needs and weapons delivery missions of the U.S. Armed Forces, worldwide. The GPS signals are produced by a constellation of satellites and are available at all times, free of charge.

"Will my vehicles need a huge antenna?"
No! This AERTRAX antenna is about the size of a match box. Several mounting options are available including magnetic, adhesive, glass mount and screw on. Click here to view available antennas

"How do I receive information from the AerComTec resource center about my mobile assets?"
AERTRAX information may be accessed from any laptop or desktop computer (IBM Compatible or Apple) that has access to the Internet. AERTRAX supports only the Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.x Web browser

"Who will train my employees to operate the system?"
The only training required relates to accessing the Internet and using a Web browser. Anyone now using a web browser is 95% trained

"How accurate is the AERTRAX System?"
AERTRAX position accuracy is determined through a triangulation with the GPS satellite constellation. Accuracy is +/-50 feet.

"Ok! I understand that I can receive information about my fleet from the Internet, but how does the information get from my moving vehicle into the system?"
The AerTrax system utilizes a new, highly dependable and inexpensive communications concept called Control Channel Data. Other ALS systems utilize cellular voice channels or existing two-way radio systems; these systems are subject to interference, data loss and interception by competitors. The AerTrax data is error-corrected and is always transmitted at full legal power. Both in the air and over the Internet, AerTrax data streams are extremely difficult to intercept or corrupt.

"What can I do after I login?"
You will be allowed to look at a variety of maps and reports, derived from the activity from your GPS unit messages.

"What is show Vehicle Location and Map?"
This is the default for quick viewing a map of the last known location of your vehicle. The selection is already highlighted, so all you that is required is that you select the vehicle on the left and press the down arrow on the right and choose “most recent”, “Today” etc. and in order to execute your request click “Go”.

"What is Show Engine Run Time and Distance?"
This is a simple, after the fact calculation that estimates how far and for how long a vehicle has been operating in a given day. The purpose is for fleet owners to verify a rough estimate of the wear and tear on a vehicle in a given day. Bear in mind engine hours are based on the differential between ignition on and ignition off messages, and that if one or more of these is missing the values may be skewed. Also, the miles traveled are calculated from point to point “as the crow flies”, and as messages occur.
These values are intended to be used only as a guideline.

"What is Show Vehicle Alerts?"
Alerts are sent by the GPS units as unique messages. Some examples include “power alert” meaning there was an interruption to the main power source to the unit, and “Speeding Alert” which is a threshold set within the unit. Some alerts can be accompanied by an E-Mail, to notify users of important vehicle events.

"What is Show Trip Details?"
Trip Detail reports are designed to conclude all possible from the available unit data. A “Trip” is defined as beginning with an ignition on message and ending with an ignition off message. Every transmission in between those values shows location, speed and direction of travel at the time of the transmission, as well as computations of distance traveled and time elapsed between transmissions. If additional switches are being used by the unit, they are also reflected in this report. At the conclusion of the trip the sums of distance and time elapsed are added. Please note that the distance is “as the crow flies” and between the points transmitted, and may not be entirely accurate. Entire trip may also be skewed if ignitions on/off messages are not received. Also note that a “trip” will not be concluded until the system has received the ignition off message that concludes the trip.

"What is Show Vehicle History?"
History is a listing of all transmissions from the vehicle. It can be queried for a single day, the entire previous week, month or two months. Listed are Date/Time, Location by address, speed if moving, direction if moving, an indication of ignition on/off, and whether the switches have been used (not available with all units or applications).

"What is list View?"
List View is a text list of the last known location(s) of your unit(s). It includes: Name (the name designation set up in our database), date and time of the last known position, location (the last know closest available street address), speed if moving, direction also if moving, odometer, engine hours, and alerts. The last three listed are not available with all units. The “name” field is a link to a map of that individual unit. There is also a link in the upper right part of the screen that allows you to map all of the vehicles last know locations simultaneously.

"What is Paging?"
Paging is a means of communicating with your GPS unit at the click of a button. By far the most common use is to request the location of the unit. Although there is often a delay of up to a few minutes, the unit will respond with its current whereabouts. Other uses for pages are to request meter information within the units such as odometer readings and engine hours. Pages are also used for locking and unlocking vehicle doors, turning on the “call the office” button and other uses. Please note that not all units can accept pages and respond to pages all of the time. Some units go entirely into sleep mode when the vehicle ignition is off so that there is little or no drain on the vehicle battery. When this is the case the unit cannot accept pages.

"What is the vehicle alert report?"
The Report options provide printable versions of all queries.

"What is Vehicle Page Report?"
The Vehicle Page Report is a running record of the pages sent to the GPS units. It will indicate the date, time and type of page that was sent to all units.
